Residential
For most of us, our home is the most valuable asset we will own. Buying a home for the first time is exciting and nerve racking and it is important to do your homework before you sign on the dotted line. There are a lot of different things to look out for when buying or selling a house, so talk to one of our conveyancing lawyers or legal executives before signing anything and let them walk you through the process.
There are a number of ways of financing your first home, such as KiwiSaver withdrawals, loans or gifts from family members, mortgages, and family members acting as guarantors, talk to us to discuss your options.
Depending on your situation, you may need to consider whether a contracting out agreement (aka pre-nup) , or property sharing agreement is required. You also need to consider what the most appropriate form of ownership is for your situation, such as joint tenancy (where the property will automatically pass to the other party) or tenancy in common (where you each own a share in the property and can will your share to anyone).
